[Abstract]
The near-infrared ray (NIR) accounts for approximately 50% of sunlight that reaches the surface of ground. Recently, it has being suggested that the NIR contributes to photoaging which is inducted by formation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in skin. We examined the association between NIR and photoaging of skin using tape stipping method. Our result suggested that there was an increase of the carbonylation proteins which is one of the oxidation stress markers. Here, we have observed carbonylation protein within the stratum couneum of human forearm skin irradiated with NIR (800-2000 nm). Titanium oxide is widely used cosmetic ingredients as UV protecting agent. . Here, we have examined the effect of NIR scattering utilizing titanium oxide. For the result, complex of plate-like cellulose which was processed in different sizes of titanium oxide in the ratio of uniformity had the high protection effect on both UV and NIR. We have confirmed that this complex inhibited carbonylation of proteins in the stratum couneum by NIR irradiation.
