[Abstract]
Placenta extract contains diverse biologically active substances and is used in alternative medicine and cosmetics. We have reported the usefulness of gel containing porcine placenta extract (PPE) in humans, promotion of ceramide synthase (CerS3) expression in epidermal cell lines. Also, for the purpose of identifying biologically active substances, as a result the water-soluble fraction of PPE was fractionated by liquid chromatography, we reported that the first fraction (F1) promoted expression of CerS3. In this study, the substances contained in F1 analyzed by LC/MS, and several kinds of dipeptides were identified, and so, their effects on CerS3 expression were examined. As a result, of the identified dipeptides, Gly-Thr promoted the expression of CerS3. Therefore, suggested that Gly-Thr contained in PPE may be one of the biologically active substances involved in CerS3 expression.
